Most consumers do not recognize the OSI group as a leader of the food industry, however, this company is the largest privately held food product organization in the world. The reason is simple. OSI works in the back room of the food industry and provides solutions for other leading food industry businesses. They cater to the needs of other large food suppliers such as McDonald’s.
OSI is well regarded within the industry, and particularly admired because they started as a small butcher shop in the Chicago area in the early 1900’s. It was in the 1950s that OSI began to see its first signs of substantial growth. Today, OSI is the largest privately held company in the food industry.
The OSI Group experienced its first major growth spurt in the 1950s when it was asked to supply the all beef patty for the food chain. This became the foundation of the company and since then, the management team has been able to associate with other large food brands and expand its operations into many other countries, becoming a world industry leader.
Even today, OSI continues to seek growth solutions to carry it into the next century. It is by taking steps such as the recent acquisition of a large food production facility that give the company its competitive edge over other food producing companies.
The OSI group has acquired a food processing facility in their hometown of Chicago. The facility was owned by Tyson foods.
A recent interview with a Tyson spokesperson revealed that the company had planned on closing the plant in 2015 and renovating. However, later they made the decision to sell the 200,000 square foot facility. Personnel from the facility were moved to other manufacturing locations.
Kevin Scott, Vice President of operations for the North America division of OSI believes this new acquisition will broaden the company’s reach even further.
At this time, OSI is not revealing the terms of the purchase, nor offering information on the products to be produced here.
OSI Group has its headquarters in Aurora, Illinois and this new acquisition is beneficial as it is close to home and will meet the company’s additional production needs. OSI currently has holding in the United States, Europe, China and many other countries. OSI Group to co-manufacture the Impossible Burger
