As a relatively unknown name to the NBA community, there is an up and coming influence on the rise in the Midwest. From a team concept, it is the Milwaukee Bucks. This past season, they rose to prominence as having the best record in the Eastern Conference. The rise to notoriety caught many NBA fans and experts by complete surprise because of having so many changes. The most important change was at head coach which brought about a different on court philosophy. The man ultimately responsible for this was Wes Edens, the former hedge-fund manager and billionaire.
To better know who Wes Edens is, we take note of his life. First, he attended Oregon State University where, in 1984, he acquired a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on Finance. He began his trek to success in 1987 with he was able to land employment with Lehman Brothers. After establishing himself to management as a highly successful talent, Wes was elevated to Partner and Managing Director for just over six years. In 1994, he moved on to Blackrock Financial Management Inc. where he held the title of Partner and Managing Director until May 1997.
Shortly thereafter, Wes Edens co-founded Fortress Investment Group which is a private equity firm that manages over $40 Billion in investments and assets. He main source in acquiring such a massive fortune is his intuition. Always following his intuitive thoughts along with doing his due diligence, he purchased the Milwaukee Bucks in 2014 along with a partner for $550 Million. After adding the NBA franchise to his portfolio, it is projected that his personal gross income was $54 Million in 2016. Due to the excitement surrounding owning a team, Wes Edens’ daughter, Mallory got so energized to where she has a dream of owning an NBA franchise one day. By the way, rumor has it that she would like to own the New York Knicks. It must be exciting to have a dad to learn from like Wes Edens.
